What it is

Air freight is for the shipments that carry a deadline: production-line spares, samples that win contracts, pharmaceuticals, perishables and e-commerce stock. PNM Egypt arranges airport-to-airport and door-to-door air cargo into and out of Egypt, primarily through Cairo International Airport's cargo terminals.

We build each shipment around the real trade-off — direct uplift versus consolidated rates, speed versus cost — and handle the air waybill, security screening requirements, and customs on both ends so transit time is spent flying, not filed in a pending tray.

Inbound and outbound files run through Cairo International Airport's cargo terminals, where most scheduled capacity into Egypt lands, with Borg El Arab serving Alexandria and the western Delta when routing or congestion favours it. Our clearance desk works the same files as our booking desk — customs entries prepared before the flight arrives, so the airport's free period is spent releasing cargo, not opening the file.

Two numbers decide whether air makes sense: the value of a day and the chargeable weight. Airlines bill the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight (length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6,000 per piece), so dense cargo flies cheaper per kilo than light, bulky freight. As a rule of thumb, air earns its premium on urgent, high-value or perishable shipments up to a few tonnes; beyond that, sea — or a sea–air combination — usually wins on total landed cost. We run that comparison for you before you commit, not after.

Who it's for

  • Factories that need machine spares on the line this week, not this month.
  • Exporters of perishables, samples and high-value, low-volume goods.
  • Businesses replenishing stock on tight retail or e-commerce calendars.

How it works with PNM Egypt

Frequently asked questions

How is air freight priced? What is chargeable weight?

You pay on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight per piece is length × width × height in centimetres divided by 6,000 — so a 100 kg crate measuring one cubic metre bills at roughly 167 kg. Rates move with fuel, season and capacity, so we quote live per shipment rather than publish numbers that would be stale in a week.

When does air freight beat sea freight?

When the cost of waiting exceeds the freight difference: production-line stoppages, contract penalties, perishables, product launches, or high-value goods where financing idle inventory costs real money. For shipments under roughly a tonne, the total gap between air and sea is often smaller than shippers expect once local charges on both sides are counted.

Which airports do you handle in Egypt?

Cairo International Airport (CAI) is the primary gateway for both import and export files; Borg El Arab (HBE) serves Alexandria and the western Delta when the routing suits. On the foreign end, our partner network covers the major cargo hubs on each lane.

What documents does an air shipment need?

An air waybill (we issue it), commercial invoice and packing list as the base. Imports into Egypt also require the advance ACI filing through the Nafeza platform, and some goods need certificates of origin, GOEIC registration or ministry approvals. We confirm the exact list for your commodity before booking.

Do you clear air cargo through Cairo airport customs?

Yes — our own clearance team handles HS classification, duties and release at the airport, and we aim to have the file lodged before the aircraft lands. Clean files typically release quickly; goods routed for inspection take the time the inspection takes, with our agent attending. We promise attendance and preparation, never a guaranteed clock.
